City of Hamilton Building Permits surpass $1 Billion for 2015

HAMILTON, ON – November 11, 2015 – The City of Hamilton’s Chief Building Official, Ed VanderWindt, today announced that the city has officially surpassed $1 billion dollars’ worth of construction for 2015.

This marks the fifth time over the last six years where the City has hit the billion dollar mark. With a number of weeks before the end of this year, and building permit processing still continuing, it is expected the final number will be higher.

“These building permits are not all attributable to one sector – there are great numbers in residential, commercial, industrial and institutional categories,” says Jason Thorne, General Manager of Planning and Economic Development for the City of Hamilton. “It’s also interesting to point out that the permits represent not just new business, but in fact, many are directly related to business expansion of local companies.”

“This milestone is a testament to just how much residents, businesses and the community are invested in Hamilton,” says Chris Murray, City Manager. “Further, it speaks to the outstanding work of our staff, which includes the building division, economic development, planning, and growth management divisions. It also speaks to Council commitment to create a healthy, safe and prosperous community.”
